What I Learned at the Dan Moody Museum today: Protection from RIOTS, EXPLOSIONS AND TORNADOES?
Did you know that Mary Robertson Moody — sister of Texas Governor Dan Moody — once sold automobile insurance right here in Taylor, Texas? We recently uncovered this incredible 1920s–30s promotional card from the National Liberty Insurance Company of America, where Mary is listed as the local agent.
The card features a dramatic image of a totaled car with the eye-catching line:
“Not Your Car You Say? But It Could Have Been!”
The policy covered everything from fire, windstorms, and tornadoes to riot and explosion — not your average day on the road! 🚗🔥🌪️💥
Mary was born in 1891, and at a time when most women weren’t running businesses, she carved out her own path in the growing world of insurance and continued the work of her father and mother — all while staying deeply involved in her community and family legacy.
Just another reminder that the Moody family history is full of surprises — and not just political ones!
