The development of Taylor's High School Band program
In 1922, Taylor High School organized a band thanks to the leadership of Miss Haines, the superintendent of music at the time, the Taylor Ex-Student Association, the Rotary Club, the Retail Merchants’ Association, and numerous other Taylorites and school teachers.
I can also picture Mary Moody and her mother Nannie (who was a former THS teacher) actively involved in this endeavor as well, as they were integral in the development of the Wednesday Music Club, which offered music scholarships to THS seniors.
I am so thankful to these forward thinking educators who helped establish this successful organization that has lasted over a century. Just think of all the students who were lucky enough to perform with the high school band! Must be thousands (including me)!
The information attached comes from the 1922 Cotton Boll, a precursor to the Mallard Yearbook.
